Christmas is over us again. Last year I started knitting the story of the old Christmas song "The Twelve Days of Christmas". Back a year ago, I only got to the first verse:
"On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree."
That's exactly how far I got - to the partridge in the pear tree.
This year, I have given the partridge company, so two doves have joined him.
"On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree."
The first gift offered is the partridge which, back when the song was written, was probably meant for the cooking pot; I'll let mine sit in his tree. Second gift is a set of two doves which used to be kept as pets, probably meant as symbols of love and peace - something we surely can use lots of today also.
Hope you enjoy my two new creatures.
